What is dental consultation in?

A dental consultation is the first appointment, during which we assess the condition of your teeth, gums, soft tissues and bite, discuss your expectations and draw up a written treatment plan with an exact price next to each service. It is not just a check of the teeth: we look at the whole ecosystem of the mouth and try to understand what brought you in: pain, an aesthetic concern, a long-avoided visit, or simply the wish for a check-up.

During the consultation we always show you on the screen what we see and explain it in plain words, without Latin terms. If needed, we take a dental or panoramic X-ray so the diagnosis is accurate.

After the visit you receive a written plan that you can take home and consider; there is no pressure to book treatment the same day. All prices are listed in the price list.

When is it needed?

  • A long-avoided visit: you have not seen a dentist for years and want to start with a clear plan.
  • New tooth pain: a tooth has started to ache, sensitivity to cold or hot, swelling of the gums.
  • A second opinion: a large treatment plan has been proposed elsewhere and you want to check the alternatives.
  • An aesthetic concern: you want advice about whitening, crowns, veneers or a smile makeover.
  • Preparing for larger work: you are planning implants, prosthetics or bite reconstruction.
  • A check-up: an annual examination, if nothing hurts and you want it to stay that way.
  • A child's first visit: you want to gently introduce your child to the dental surgery.

How the procedure works

  1. 1

    Health questionnaire

At reception you fill in a short form: medicines taken, allergies, chronic conditions, previous treatments.

  2. 2

    A conversation

We discuss what brought you in, your past experiences, fears and expectations. Only then do we move on to the examination.

  3. 3

    Full examination

We systematically check the teeth, gums, tongue, soft tissues and bite, not just the area that hurts.

  4. 4

    X-ray where needed

A dental or panoramic X-ray only when it is needed for the diagnosis. We always explain why.

  5. 5

    Explaining the diagnosis

We show the findings on the screen, explain them in plain words and answer all your questions.

  6. 6

    Written treatment plan

Everything noted is listed by priority (urgent, important, aesthetic) with an exact price next to each item.

  7. 7

    Order and payment

We discuss what to do first, what can wait, and how to split payment. No pressure to start the same day.

What happens after a dental consultation

After the consultation you leave with a written treatment plan in hand. The plan is valid for several months, so there is no need to decide the same day; take it home and consider it. If we have found problems that need attention, we split the plan into stages by priority: first we stop active decay or infection, then we deal with function, and aesthetics come last.

  • Ask about anything that is unclear; it is better to check now than later.
  • If you have previous X-rays or treatment records, send them to us by email so the plan is more complete.
  • Talk it over with your family, especially if the plan is larger and you want to split the payment.
  • Get in touch via our contact page or by phone when you are ready to start.

If the plan lists urgent work (for example active infection or deep decay near the nerve), do not delay: dealing with it now is cheaper and simpler than in six months' time.

Why choose Miško Dental Clinic for your first visit

  • A written plan with prices: you leave not with a bill but with a document in which all findings are listed by priority and with an exact price next to each.
  • No pressure to book the same day: the plan is valid for several months; you make the decision, not us.
  • Experience you can trust: Dr Lauras Smilgevičius and Dr Rasa Smilgevičienė advise based on more than a decade of practice and regular training.
  • A full examination, not just the painful spot: we check the teeth, gums, soft tissues, tongue and bite so nothing is missed.
  • A clear diagnosis on the screen: we show the findings on the screen and explain them without Latin terms, so you know what is happening in your mouth.

Dentist Lauras Smilgevičius on the first visit:

When someone who has avoided the dentist for years walks into the surgery, I see it in their eyes. Head lowered, hands gripping the chair. The first five minutes matter more to me than any procedure: we sit down, we talk, we discuss what is worrying them. Only then do we examine the teeth.

For us an examination is not only a check of the teeth. We examine the gums, the tongue, the soft tissues, the bite, the whole ecosystem of the mouth. We often see things the patient did not even know about: early periodontitis, a wisdom tooth about to catch against its neighbour, a change in the soft tissues that is worth watching. We show it all on the screen and explain it in plain words.

And most importantly: you leave with a written treatment plan. Not a bill, but a plan. It lists everything noted, sorted by importance (what is urgent, what is important, what is aesthetic), with an exact price next to each item. You can take it home, consider it, talk it over with your family. No pressure to book the same day.

Dental Consultation in: frequently asked questions

How much does a consultation cost and what does it include?
A check-up costs 20 €, and a detailed consultation with a treatment plan 30 €. Drawing up a treatment plan (if detailed planning is needed) is an extra 50 €. A dental X-ray is 10 € and is only taken if it is needed for the diagnosis. All prices are transparent and listed in the price list: no surprises at the end.
Will you treat during the consultation, or only examine?
Usually the first visit is for examination, diagnostics and drawing up a treatment plan. If the situation allows and you wish, we can do simple things (for example a small filling or repeat hygiene) the same day. But there is no pressure: you decide when to start treatment.
How long does the first visit take?
We allow about 45 to 60 minutes. That is enough time for a conversation, a full examination, an X-ray (if needed) and a discussion of the treatment plan. Please do not rush and arrive a little early so you can calmly fill in the health questionnaire.
I am afraid to go to the dentist after a long time. Will you scold me?
No, never. You came in, and that is already good. Our job is not to judge how long you avoided it, but to help now. We will listen, examine, draw up a plan and go step by step. Everyone has their own pace, and we respect that.
Will I get a written treatment plan with prices?
Yes. After the consultation you will leave with a written treatment plan in which everything noted is listed by priority and with exact prices. You can take it home, consider it and seek advice. The plan is valid for several months: there is no need to decide the same day.
Can I pay in instalments if the treatment plan is large?
Yes, a larger treatment plan can be split into stages and paid after each visit. You can pay by cash or card, and we also issue invoices to companies or health insurance providers.
What should I bring to the first visit?
An ID document, a list of medicines you take (especially if you take blood thinners, bisphosphonates or have chronic conditions), previous dental X-rays (if you have them) and a health insurance card if relevant. If a child is coming, bring their birth certificate.
How do I book a consultation?
Simply call +370 6333 7870 or leave an enquiry on the contact page. We will get in touch within one working day and offer you the most suitable time. When booking, ask about anything unclear: price, time, what to expect. We are here to help.
Do I need a consultation if I only need dental hygiene?
Not necessarily. If nothing hurts and you only want professional dental hygiene, you can book directly with the hygienist. A consultation with the dentist is needed when there is pain, sensitivity, a longer gap since your last visit, or larger work is planned.
Can you treat a child during the consultation?
Yes, children's consultations are carried out by Dr Rasa Smilgevičienė. The first visit is usually a get-to-know-you visit: the child explores the room, sits in the chair, and we talk about caring for the teeth. If treatment is needed, we plan it for a separate visit so the child is not frightened at the first meeting.
Can I decline the treatment plan after the consultation?
Of course, the plan is for your information, not a commitment. You can take it, compare it with other clinics, wait for a more comfortable moment financially, or choose only part of the suggested work. We respect any decision you make.
Does the plan change if new things appear once treatment starts?
Yes, sometimes after initial treatment (for example hygiene or fillings) details emerge that were not visible before. In that case we update the plan, talk to you before doing anything that was not discussed, and only continue, with updated prices, once we have your consent.
