Simple and surgical wisdom tooth removal

The method depends on the tooth’s position, roots and surrounding tissues. An impacted wisdom tooth has not come through normally: it may lack space or be blocked by a neighbouring tooth. It may be only partly visible. The Oral Health Foundation explains impaction.

Surgical removal may involve a cut in the gum and dividing the tooth into pieces. Whether the tooth is visible does not, by itself, establish how complex removal will be. The NHS describes the general procedure.

Who carries out complex extractions?

Complex extractions and removal of impacted wisdom teeth are carried out by Miško Clinic’s consulting oral and maxillofacial surgeon Donatas Kubilius. His other procedures are described on our oral surgery page.

What should I tell the dentist?

  • Which tooth is troubling you and what symptoms you have.
  • Whether you have earlier dental X-rays or 3D scans.
  • Which medicines you take, any medical conditions and any allergies.

How is removal planned?

  1. 1

    Examination and image assessment

The tooth’s position and health are assessed, including whether removal is needed. The clinician decides which imaging is appropriate.

  2. 2

    Discussing the procedure and price

Before removal, we discuss the plan, procedure price and risks relevant to your case.

  3. 3

    Removal

Local anaesthetic is used. The tooth is removed with a simple or surgical procedure according to the assessed situation.

  4. 4

    Aftercare instructions

After the procedure, you receive written aftercare instructions and a contact phone number.

Aftercare and possible complications

Follow your written instructions. General information is available in our tooth extraction aftercare guide.

Possible complications include dry socket, infection and injury to a nearby nerve, which can affect sensation in the lip, chin or tongue. Discuss your individual risks with the clinician. The NHS describes these complications.

Seek urgent dental help for bleeding that does not stop, worsening pain or swelling, fever or feeling unwell. If swelling makes breathing or swallowing difficult, call 112. Our urgent dental care page explains where to seek help.

Questions before wisdom tooth removal

How much does wisdom tooth removal cost?
The price list gives wisdom tooth extraction as 100 € and complex or impacted surgical extraction from 150 €. We discuss the necessary plan and its price after examination. All procedure entries are in the price list.
Does every wisdom tooth need removal?
No. A healthy wisdom tooth that has come through and is easy to clean may only need monitoring. A dentist should assess its position and health. The Oral Health Foundation explains this decision.
Will I always need a 3D CBCT scan?
The same scan is not needed in every case. The clinician assesses the tooth and existing images, then explains which imaging is appropriate.
